Bishop’s Message
  • The Medium is the Message, the Sign and the Instrument

“And the Word was made Flesh, and he dwelt among us” (John 1:14) The unequivocal words of John succinctly express the gratuitous Self-communication (Rahner) of God with humankind, a relationship of unconditional love (Jn 3:16). The Bible is a record of this constant Self-communication as witnessed in the various covenants: the unwavering faithfulness of God despite all the frailties of humankind. God loves us, no matter what. His only Response is LOVE, virtually another nomenclature for God. This relationship reaches its unique zenith in Jesus Christ, the perfect and final self-communication. Jesus is the Medium; Jesus is the Message. He is God-Love (1 Jn 4:8). Today, the Church is the Sign (Medium) and Instrument (Message) of this self-communication of God (Love) to humankind (LG 1). The Church is a SIGN (Medium) that experiences and witnesses this self-communication in every moment of its life through the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:5) that dwells in each baptised person. Each baptised person is called to discern this communication personally and as community (Church); The Church is an INSTRUMENT (Message), a Missionary Church, to communicate the Word (Love) to the whole universe, through its presence, words and works. The Website of the Diocese of Baroda is not merely a reference book for telephones and emails, news and information. It is one more mode of the Faithful of the Local Church of Baroda to be SIGN AND INSTRUMENT of witnessing and proclaiming our experience of the Divine Trinity, very especially in the virtual world we live in today. May the presence, witness, words and works of the Church of Baroda bring Joy, Mercy and Hope to all we encounter in the challenging times we live in, especially in the Jubilee Year 2025, and especially to all those who surf through dioceseofbaroda.org. We are grateful to Franciscan Solutions for designing, hosting and maintaining our website gratuitously in the spirit of the Gospel and the missionary thrust of the Church. We pray for God’s blessings on them. May God Bless us all
